THE race to host the Island Games in 2015 has stepped up a gear as both Jersey and rivals Gotland have released their bid documents.
This is the first chance for Jersey to find out what they are up against with the one clear difference to Gotland’s bid being the sports on offer.
The majority are the same, with both committed to hosting archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, sailing (including windsurfing), shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
But while Jersey has opted for a triathlon event, as one of the 14 sports they can put on from a choice of 18, Gotland has selected gymnastics.
Steve Jacobs, chairman of Jersey’s Island Games Association, said: ‘I have had a quick look at Gotland’s bid document now it has been released and it is fairly similar to ours.’
