The Island cricket squad yesterday bounced back from a six-wicket defeat by the World Division 5 hosts on Saturday to thrash Fiji by nine wickets.

Jersey Cricketer of the Year Dean Morrison has been in sparkling form with two half centuries and Jersey now face group leaders the USA tomorrow – a team they beat in Division V at the FB Fields in 2008.

It’s a key match in the group and Jersey can not afford a second defeat if they are to achieve their goal of winning promotion to Division IV by finishing as one of the top two nations in the six-team tournament.

Jersey Cricket Board director Chris Minty said: ‘We have a rest day today but there will be no rest for us because we will continue to work hard in the nets. We are short of match practice because we’ve trained inside all winter and some of the bowlers are still trying to get into their rhythm.’
