Convent’s Sophie Holmes goes for goal against St Lawrence Pictures: DAVID FERGUSON (00896347)
THEY may not win the league this season but Convent ensured they would not finish the year empty handed as they retained their title at the Jersey Open on Sunday.
Convent dealt well with the hard approach of their opponents’ play to conjure up an 18-11 win over SAS in the final at Fort Regent.
Captain Sarah Dodson impressed with her quick passing while Jenna Murphy and Abbie Hazley played a vital role. Combined with calm shooting from Sophie Holmes and Lynsey Pitman, Convent edged a 6-4 lead at half time.
With a seven-goal victory at the final whistle Convent coach Linda Andrews said: ‘I am delighted to win today. It’s so nice to play different opposition and we had to work hard to beat SAS.
‘They had a very good goal shooter, who has played in the Superleague, so it was a completely different game to what we are used to. We lost to them by one goal in the earlier stages but worked hard on how to combat them and it’s just superb that we did it so well.’
