Death of former Senator Lakeman

Christopher Lakeman
FORMER Senator Christopher Lakeman has died at the age of 42.
For many years, Mr Lakeman, a Jersey advocate, played an active role in the community life of the Island.
He was elected to the States in 1999 aged 32, finishing second in the polls, and held his seat until 2004, when he made the decision to leave politics.
After stepping down from the States, Mr Lakeman, a lover of the arts, was appointed chairman of the Opera House in November 2004. Mr Lakeman retired as chairman in the spring of last year.

What absolutely shocking and sad news. We have lost an excellent statesman and lawyer. I am privileged to have worked with Advocate Lakeman (Chris) and to have appeared in court with him on more than one occasion. He will be very sadly missed by all who have known him, including the many students who he assisted with their first tentative steps into the legal profession.
The Island has lost a true Jerseyman who always had Jersey’s interests at heart. God bless him.

The island has lost a true Jerseyman one who loved his island. It was a pleasure to have known you Chris as a friend and a true professional. You were a rare man one who was honest and who had integrity. The world will be a darker place without you. You will be sadly missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at school and the privilege of calling him a friend. He was funny, clever, witty, kind and a true gentleman.
My thoughts are with his family at this terribly sad time.

What can I say? A larger than life, generous character who brought humour and laughter to every situation, and seriousness into the court room. His death leaves a void. A man who truly gave 100 per cent and was loved by his family and many friends. God bless you Chris. We miss you already.

how sad we were to hear the sad news.Chris was a good friend and customer with us at the cosmopolitan.We had known him for years and proved on many occasions how gracious and well mannered person he was..a true gentleman.

Chris was my God Father, but he was more like a father to me, as my biological dad is gone. Now he’s gone too I don’t know what to do :/
