The Assize trial is being heard in the Royal Court

A 61-YEAR-OLD man driven mad by his noisy neighbours was beaten to the ground after plucking up the courage to confront them, an Assize jury heard yesterday.

Terrence Gore was kept awake for weeks by loud music and shouting in a nearby flat before finally snapping one day last summer, it was alleged. And his attempts to confront the problem on 5 August just after 9 pm left him unconscious with two black eyes and bruising to his head.

Crown Advocate Nuno Santos Costa said in the Royal Court that Mr Gore was knocked to the ground by William Dubois in Hilary Street, close to West’s Centre, St Helier. Mr Dubois then allegedly punched and kicked Mr Gore as he lay lifeless on the ground.

Mr Dubois (37) denies committing a grave and criminal assault on Mr Gore. He claims that he acted in self-defence after Mr Gore shouted that he was going to ‘kill him’ and charged at him with a kitchen knife like a ‘rabid dog’ in the street. Mr Gore denied threatening the accused in this way.
