A 37-YEAR-OLD man who punched another man to the ground and carried on hitting him as he lay unconscious has been found guilty of committing a grave and criminal assault.

William Dubois denied assaulting 61-year-old Terrence Gore, who had plucked up the courage to confront his noisy neighbours on 5 August last year in Hilary Street, St Helier.

An Assize jury heard how the victim was kept awake by loud music and shouting in a nearby flat before finally ‘snapping’. Dubois admitted punching Mr Gore initially but claimed that it was in self-defence. But the jury took less than an hour to unanimously find him guilty.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced by the Royal Court on 1 April.
