TWO senior police officers suspended on full pay for a year and a half over the alleged sexual assault of a woman on a boat in St Helier are back at work.

Their return to the States police follows a disciplinary hearing at the start of February. The JEP understands that both officers have been reinstated in the force after being cleared of any misconduct.

The officers have been suspended on full pay since August 2008 after a woman alleged that she was ‘groomed’ by the officers and sexually assaulted on a boat in the Elizabeth Marina.

It was claimed that the two officers and the woman went for a meal in a restaurant in Kensington Place before going back to a boat at the Harbour just before 11 pm. Both police officers were questioned, but released pending inquires.

After an investigation by Thames Valley Police, the former Attorney General, William Bailhache,
concluded that there was insufficient evidence to charge the officers. And it is understood that at the beginning of this month, the officers were acquitted after a week-long internal disciplinary hearing.
