Peter Burr, happy to be home
AN Islander who spent over three months incarcerated in a notorious Bangkok detention centre has been freed thanks to his friends and former employers in Jersey.
As reported by the JEP in January, Peter Burr (46) had no money to return home and faced being locked up in a mosquito-filled and crowded concrete cell indefinitely after over-staying his visa.
But friends and former employers of the painter and decorator started a fund to bring him home and last Wednesday he returned to the Island.
The former Le Rocquier student said he is much wiser after his experience and he had some advice for others who might be thinking about embarking on their very own Thai adventure.
‘Make sure you have enough money to fall back on,’ he said. ‘If you can, leave some over here or buy a return ticket, then you can always get out.’
