‘Less red tape’ for Island businesses

NEW efforts will be made to cut the red tape and bureaucracy which stifles business in Jersey, the Economic Development Minister has pledged.
Addressing an audience which included hundreds of Island business leaders at the Jersey Enterprise Awards on Friday, Senator Alan Maclean announced a review of how commerce was regulated by the States.
‘Government must stand aside by removing unnecessary barriers to investment and growth,’ he told the audience. ‘It is not governments that create economic growth, it is businesses and entrepreneurs like you.’
Senator Maclean added that local business people would be invited to sit on a review panel so that their views would help to shape future policy.

How about no GST? That would help!

It won’t make any difference what Alan Maclean pledges.
Bureaucracy and paperwork keeps the civil service off the streets.
No forms to send out, chase up and then file would result in empire shrinkage and we can’t have that!

Not having to charge and administer GST would help local businesses in one sense I agree, but what about the Public Services it funds? Don’t forget GST is there for a reason, not just to hamper businesses.

Great…does this also mean that we can rid ourselves of the army of bureaucrats that are sucking the life blood out of our tiny, little island.
No. on second thoughts, that’s a silly idea…they are the only sector of the economy that can demonstrate unfetttered growth rates.
