FORMER Senator Christopher Lakeman died after taking an overdose of pills, an inquest heard today.

The 42-year-old died in the intensive care unit of the General Hospital last Tuesday, more than a week after taking the tablets.

The opening of the inquest this morning heard that his sisters, Elizabeth Lakeman and Christine Little, found Advocate Lakeman collapsed in his bathroom on 12 February.

Notes were found in the bedroom containing funeral details, a list of people to invite and an explanation of why he took the pills. An ambulance was called and Advocate Lakeman was taken to hospital, but he never recovered.
