Jersey Swimarathon 2010
Friday 5th March 2010, 12:00PM GMT.

FCJ's Dazzling Dolphins were among the first taking part in the event
HUNDREDS of children and disabled swimmers got this year’s Swimarathon off to a great start on Wednesday.
The annual fundraising event – the 39th in its history – began when the Lieutenant-Governor’s wife, Valerie Ridgway, sounded the start for the DIPS (Disabled in Pool Swimmers).
The main event was started officially by her husband, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, with the first swimmers coming from FCJ.
One of the main beneficiaries this year is the charity Holiday for Heroes, which brings soldiers wounded in conflicts to the Island for a holiday. Two UK soldiers, Paul Shepherd (22) and Sean Alimo (20), in Jersey as a result of the charity’s fund-raising, are taking part in the event not only to raise money for the charity but to honour the lives of comrades who have died in Afghanistan.
The swimarathon continues until Sunday evening.
