Huelin-Renouf may introduce up to four more sailings on the route

ISLANDERS and businesses will have a new freight link to France thanks to a service being launched by Huelin-Renouf.

The shipping firm’s chief executive officer, Keith Renouard, said that if its new Friday route to Normandy proves a catalyst for improved trade, they might introduce up to four more sailings on the route.

The freight crossing to Cherbourg will be launched on Friday 12 March and Mr Renouard said that customer demand would dictate the future.

‘It’s over to the people in Jersey,’ he said. ‘They have wanted this link for years and though we will start with just the one sailing, if there is enough support we can increase the frequency. It’s easy for us to tailor it, but it’s very difficult to gauge at the moment how popular it will be.’

This island is held to ranson by CONdor ferries I agree there needs to be another company introduced. Promotions aren’t promotions with this company, they are more likely to run late every Friday than on time without any appologies. Interesting to note you can get a ferry from France to UK with car & 2 passengers for less than a day trip on CONdor for 2, when will the states get involved and do something for their islanders and stop this monopoly.

Re #2 and your comment about the States not doing anything, it is they who opened up the Jersey / St Malo route to competition between Emmeraude and Condor – Condor won. Then they allowed HD to compete with Condor, and guess what, Condor won !

I am no historian, but it is well documented that the CI routes do not support competition between 2 or more operators. There is ALWAYS a loser !

Condor know the route well, and as I have said before, if the CI routes were a license to print money, would be competitors would be queing up for a slice of the action.

Please research your facts before voicing inaccurate comments about our Government and suggestions that the current operator is ‘Conning’ the travelling public.
