COFFEE company Cooper and Co is to open its first café in the refurbished Co-op Grand Marché store.

The café will be on the first floor of the building and cater for about 30 people. The work is due to finish in August and is scheduled to open at the same time that the new Co-op Homemaker store opens on the same floor.

And it will be very much a Jersey venture as Vienna Bakery will supply the pastries and bakery products while Jersey Oak is making tables.

Cooper and Co was awarded the accolade of small business of the year at the Jersey Enterprise Awards at the end of February.

And proprietor David Warr said that the firm’s plans to expand by creating the café were a contributing factor in swaying the judges to select the Halkett Place-based company as winners.
