HONOURS finished even at Springfield last night with the 2-2 draw resulting in St Paul’s missing an early chance to retain their Island title – and Jersey Scottish gaining a valuable point in their bid to stave off relegation.

Yet 20 minutes into this vital Dandara Combination Premiership encounter it looked like St Paul’s were going to run away with it. Two goals from Old Boy Ross Crick had Scottish reeling, but they overcame their slow start to hit back with goals from James O’Haire and captain James Scott.

The Scots played the final 13 minutes with ten players after defender Kevin Coogan was sent off for a hand ball, some 25 yards from goal, as he was adjudged to have denied a goal-scoring opportunity.

Scottish went to Springfield for a point and despite slipping two goals behind they fought back courageously to gain one. It wasn’t pretty at times, but they frustrated St Paul’s as the league leaders struggled to create clear cut opportunities, despite having the better of the possession.
