JERSEY and Guernsey’s football associations are miles apart in their plans for increasing competitive matches for the islands’ top players.
While the Jersey Football Association is looking to feature in the FA-backed ‘International Challenge Shield’ tournament, Guernsey has announced that it is poised to have a ‘Guernsey FC’ team play – in the guise of a club – in a UK League at level five. The GFA supports the venture and says it has a sponsor in place to fund it.
GFA chairman Mark Le Tissier said: ‘We have been invited to facilitate a “Guernsey FC” team which will compete in a UK league.’
