IT certainly was a weekend to remember for Jersey sport, as Island teams took the honours in rugby, netball, football and squash.
It started on early Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory at Springfield for Jersey’s U15 footballers meaning it was captain David Blampied lifting the prized Star Trophy instead of the Guernsey skipper.
Out west Jersey Rugby Club were putting on a sublime display of power, speed and grace as they destroyed Havant 74-7 at St Peter. United Banks RFC, too, can celebrate after beating Millbrook yesterday to reach the final of the Hampshire Plate.
Jersey won a tight squash inter-insular at St Clement, also on the Saturday, though they went down to Guernsey in the inaugural racketball fixture.
By then Jersey were already giving the Sarnians grief on the netball courts at Fort Regent, with the coup de grace administered yesterday afternoon when the Island’s senior A team thumped Guernsey’s finest 55-24.
