Strike set to cause chaos

THIS weekend’s planned strike by British Airways has thrown Jersey’s International tennis tournament into chaos.
Tournament organiser Hugh Raymond said that players trying to travel across Europe to reach Jersey for the tournament, due to start on Sunday at Les Ormes, are struggling to make it after BA announced strikes on 20-22 and 27-30 March.
Raymond said: ‘A lot of people are being told that their flights into hubs such as Hamburg and Amsterdam have been cancelled and the knock on effect is that they cannot make their connecting flight to Jersey in time.
‘As a result people are asking if they can arrive on Monday instead and have been requesting that we change their hotel bookings and car hire. But we have a deadline for people to sign in to the tournament and that is 9 pm Saturday for the men and 6 pm Sunday for the ladies.’

and if we can get them to move the goal-posts England might even win the World Cup!

I think these extraordinary circumstances call for some flexibility in arrangements after all we don’t want to fall under the influence of such an uncompromising Trade Union do we? If the BA crew members were not already the highest paid members of the airlines it would be a different situation but if they don’t get real in this time of financial constraint they may not have a job at all – I am sure lots of people would be grateful to fill their shoes.
