A TEAM from a Jersey church have returned from an ‘amazing but heart-wrenching’ trip to Kenya, where they worked with children who had been abused or abandoned.

The group from St Matthew’s Church (the Glass Church) travelled to north Kisumu, in the west of the country, to see first hand the work of the Christian charity, the Kenyan Children’s Project.

During the trip, the seven-strong group, which included St Matthew’s vicar, the Rev Phil Warren, and his family, took part in feeding and medical programmes, spent time with children living in the charity’s retreat and went out on the streets to visit children sleeping rough.

Mr Warren travelled with his wife Heather and daughters Sanna (15) and Emily (12), Becky Harrison, Amanda Jury and Nigel Porter.

Mr Warren said that it had been an eye-opener. ‘The trip was amazing and heart-wrenching and everything in between,’ he said.
