Phil Sharp
ROUTE du Rhum class winner Phil Sharp is hoping to navigate his way into the Formula One of sailing.
The 28-year-old is planning to step up to compete in the Open 60 class and enter December’s Barcelona World Race as he continues towards his ambition of winning the Vendée Globe.
Sharp said: ‘The Vendée Globe has been my dream now for several years and the ambition has only got stronger with time. It is the pinnacle of solo sailing where skippers race non-stop around the world in 60 ft boats of revolutionary technology.
‘It is not only the most competitive and gruelling of all ocean races, but probably one of the biggest endurance challenges on the planet today.’
