Adam ‘The A Bomb’ Fowler takes to the ring for his bout
A PROGRAMME telling the story of Channel Television reporter Adam Fowler’s preparation for a white-collar boxing contest won an ITV news award last week.
The TV series Going the Distance followed Mr Fowler as he competed in Jersey’s first ever white-collar boxing event last year. It won the gold award for best regional strand or series of 2009.
The award was presented at London’s Savoy Place and was hosted by ITV news presenter Mary Nightingale.
The judges praised the production of the series, describing it as ‘highly engaging’ with excellent producer involvement in the subject.
Mr Fowler surprised friends and colleagues last year when he volunteered to cover the boxing event by actually stepping into the ring himself. It was a big commitment and he followed a punishing training regime seven days a week for months.
The CTV programme was praised for highlighting personal stories of competitors and the daunting lead-up to the event, which culminated in an electric competition watched by a full house of spectators on the night.
Channel Television broadcast managing director Karen Rankine said: ‘We’re very proud of the production team who worked alongside Adam to put together this series together.’
The ITV news awards are the showcase for regional news and current affairs output featuring the best of local programming.
