A COUNTRY guesthouse owner is celebrating after being upgraded from a three-star to a four-star.

Villa d’Oro in St Lawrence joins a select number of six other Jersey guesthouses which have attained the same grading.

Owner Victoria Barrett took over Villa d’Oro in 2006 and has spent £20,000 on upgrading the premises. She said: ‘You can’t attract guests if you don’t continue to improve. Part of the reason for the improvements was to get it to a four-star to entice more people here.

‘Guests expect a certain level and it is up to us to make sure we deliver that. We don’t want people to say they didn’t enjoy visiting Jersey – we want them to say they had a fabulous time.’

“You can’t attract guests if you don’t continue to improve…”

Maybe Tourism, tourist attractions, hotels restaurants and the States should take note of this comment.

Like Walt Disney World in Florida in Orlando has had to evolve to keep people coming back, Jersey needs to do the same. Since I starting coming to Jersey, there have been little or no improvements in tourist attractions in that time. What’s new to attract return tourism?

    Evolve, Jersey; evolve!

Using the Plemont site as a eco-friendly tourist park, a la Centre Parks – but less abbrasive – would be a good start.

Bit confused by your comment Andy.

There has been a lot of investment in hotels and attractions in the last few years. Royal Yacht, radisson, Grand, St.Brelade’s Bay, Elizabeth Castle, La Mare, aMaizin Adventure park etc. etc. I think in the last couple of years, the Tourism industry has played a 20 year catch up!

Admittedly, this doesn’t apply to all but the hotels and attractions that haven’t evolved are the ones suffering.

It’s a bit of a sweeping statement to say there has been little or no investment – unless you starting coming in the last twelve months?

The meagre investment is too little too late. Sorry , but true.
