The officers were all presented with the Long Service and Good Conduct medal by the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway.
Mark James, the Island’s chief fire officer, received the award to recognise his achievements during a 20-year career.
Mr James joined the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service in 1989 and served at fire stations throughout the county. During that time he attended a major fire on Southend Pier and the Korean Bowing 747 crash at Stansted Airport. He became Jersey’s chief fire officer in June 2007 and has since promoted community fire safety in the Island.
PC Simon Cross was recognised for his hard work since joining the States police in 1987. During his career PC Cross, who was one of the founders of the Prison? Me? No Way! campaign, has worked as the community officer for the east of the Island as well as the youth affairs officer.
PC Michael Devon also received a medal for his dedication to the force over the last 23 years. He is a former member of the force’s firearms team, a former qualified police sniper and also an ex-member of the surveillance team.
DC Keeley Loughlin also joined the force in 1987. During her time she has worked in the
Public Protection Unit and Criminal Justice Unit. She now works in Special Branch.
Acting DI Stephen Langford received an award for his work since joining the force in 1987. He spent 14 years as a PC before joining CID in 2001. He now works in the Public Protection Unit.
Inspector David Burmingham joined Surrey police in 1987 and during his time in the UK force led a number of serious crime investigations.
