ISLAND Games record holder Simon Le Couilliard has called time on his swimming career.

The 23-year-old, who competed in the Melbourne  Commonwealth Games in 2006 and has has represented Jersey in four Island Games events, his medal haul including 18 golds,  has decided to retire from the sport after narrowly missing out on qualification for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The former AIB Tigers swimmer made the decision after failing to meet the Commonwealth qualification at the Australian Commonwealth Games trials in Sydney over the past week.

Le Couilliard, who won a bronze medal competing for Great Britain at the 2001 European Youth Olympics and was a multiple National Age Group champion, still holds five individual short course records and three long course records.
