YEARS of tireless service to boxing by Brian Rousseau were rewarded last night with the Sid Guy Memorial Trophy at the 2009 Jersey Sports Council’s Highland Spring Awards.

Still the only advanced coach in the Channel Islands, gaining the qualification at Pisces ABC having started his coaching career at Leonis ABC, his successes include 1986 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist John Sillitoe.

The other nominees were Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club honorary life member Christine Wright and Jersey Netball Association honorary life president Ann Halliwell.

Mr Rousseau said that it was a great honour to win. ‘I feel very proud because the people who have won it before me are great sports people and I’m very pleased to be considered the same calibre,’ he said. ‘Everybody always asks why do I do it but I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t enjoy it and I have no plans to stop.’
