JERSEY environmentalist Mike Stentiford has won a prestigious national award for his part in the National Trust’s coastline campaign.

Mr Stentiford, president of the National Trust for Jersey, received the Unsung Coastal Hero award at a ceremony in London on Wednesday.

The Coast Awards 2010, launched two years ago, were set up to recognise the people and places that represent all that is innovative, valuable and exciting around the British coastline.

Mr Stentiford was commended for inspiring 7,000 people to attend a peaceful demonstration in St Ouen’s Bay, causing Jersey’s politicians to review planning policy on the coastline.

These are the kind of birds I suspect he enjoys being surrounded by, and why not.Well done Mike any national recognition of your work may prevent the politicians simply paying lip service to your principles…or is that being a bit hopefull….
