Jersey steps forward
Saturday 27th March 2010, 3:00PM GMT.

International affairs adviser Colin Powell
JERSEY has volunteered to become one of the first financial services jurisdictions to be scrutinised under the new peer review process introduced by the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes.
In all, 91 countries and territories are involved in the review process, which is being overseen by a peer review group.
Together with India, Japan and Singapore, Jersey is one of the vice-chairmen of the group and will be represented by international affairs adviser Colin Powell. The vice-chairmen will work under a French chairman.
The reviews are a first step in a three-year process which was approved last month by the Global Forum, having been initiated at the forum meeting held in Mexico at the beginning of September last year.

OK, so Colin Powell, who is the international adviser for Jersey, is one of the vice chairmen of the peer group that will do the review ? It’s like me being judged whether I am a good teacher or not, and the judging is done by … me. Sounds about right … NOT !
