Wards have been closed and restrictions on visitors are being imposed this weekend following an outbreak of Norovirus.
Around 19 patients and at least 25 nursing staff have so far been hit with the vomiting and diarrhoea bug across the health service.
Dr Ivan Muscat said: To ensure containment of the infection, which has been identified as Norovirus, Portelet Ward at the General Hospital and Samarès Ward at Overdale Hospital have been closed to admissions and visiting has been restricted.
‘We wish to assure meembers of the public that clinical management of the patients in the affected wards and care homes will not be compromised.’
