IT was a case of celebrations all round for Jersey teams over the weekend.

In football St Paul’s eventually secured their third Island title in a row with victory at nearest challengers Grouville, the Dandara Combination Premiership crown being their third trophy in a campaign that could yet see them win an unprecedented six competitions.

At the same time on Saturday, Jersey Rugby Club celebrated last weekend’s National III South East triumph with a huge 84-13 win over a game Tring side. Tring were the last side to inflict a home league defeat on Jersey – and even took the lead against Ben Harvey’s boys before an avalanche of home tries – 13 – buried them.

Back to football and Jersey’s U16s registered a 2-0 win over Guernsey at a wet but far from miserable Springfield yesterday afternoon, with goals from Bradley Stratford and Chris Leversley making it a triumphant swan song for manager Keith Le Cornu.

Jersey remain dominant in badminton’s Gilson Trophy inter-insular winning 21-9 in Guernsey to secure their sixth victory in a row. Guernsey did, however, have the better of the cross-country inter-insular at Les Creux on Saturday, winning both men’s and ladies senior titles.
