I will be proud to sing this beautiful anthem, alongside my family, at the top of my voice

Monday 29th March 2010, 2:58PM BST.

From Sandra Costard.
I AM disappointed and disgusted by Senator Perchard’s comments about the Jersey anthem, Island Home.

Senator Perchard shouldn’t be so keen to hear the sound of his own voice and should instead listen very carefully to the words of our new anthem, to ‘feel’ the beauty and passion of this composition.

The recording of the anthem involved many Island singers and a large number of our Jersey schoolchildren, who sang it so beautifully it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Why has everything got be associated with sport (as in Senator Perchard’s reference to the rugby at the weekend)? What is so wrong with being proud and passionate about our Island and thanking God for where we live?

As a non-Jersey-born resident I will be proud to sing this anthem alongside my Jersey-born husband and children at the top of my voice.
