ST PAUL’S completed a hat-trick of James Marquis Memorial Premiership title wins on Saturday after defeating Grouville, their nearest challenge, 1-0 at Le Boulivot.
Striker Jean-Paul Martyn’s 15th minute lobbed effort separated the teams on the day and in netting their third consecutive championship it was also their third piece of silverware in the Dandara Jersey Football Combination season after their successes in the Le Riche Trophy and Charity Cup finals.
An unprecedented six trophies in one season in Combination history is still on as they face Guernsey’s Belgraves Wanderers in the Upton Park next month, together with Guernsey’s St Martin’s in the Jeremie Cup final and the Portuguese Club in the Wheway Cup final.
St Paul’s, who have won the Premiership with 13 victories and three draws, had the better of the opportunities in a tight game with Grouville. Captain Stuart André said: ‘It’s taken us three games to finally win the title and we thoroughly deserved it today but we should have had a few more goals.’
