VANDALS caused thousands of pounds worth of damage at Les Quennevais Sports Centre at the weekend.
Manager Chris Ricketts said that five windows were peppered with something resembling ‘machine-gun fire’ causing £6,000 worth of damage on Saturday night.
Vandals also smashed a shed at a neighbouring nursery and the children’s play house was ruined at the same time, which has left the children at the nursery unable to play outside.
The police are looking for those who caused the damage, who could be as young as 11 or 12, according to witnesses.

This is the state that Red Houses (or I now call Red Necks) has got into these days. Its probably the worst place to live in Jersey (outside town) and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Not to mention the dog mess on Corbiere walk and the crowds of chavs gathered on street corners…

Every month the J.E.P. reports on horrific assaults, vandalism and anti-social behaviour occurring in the island. What amazes me is that the the newspaper has few reports on how the States of Jersey Police or Honorary Police are going to combat these problems.
Do the police consult with the public on what their priorities should be? I am sure many people would like to see the police prevent behaviour such as outlined above and for more detections to occur.
Is there a Community Policing officer for Red Houses? Why isn’t he or she working with their sergeant looking at strategies to deter anti-social behaviour in the area? Come on guys and girls, pull your fingers out please.
If anyone has any information on the malicious damage caused to the facilities at the Quennevais Sports Centre, please ring 0800 555 111, or 612612 and tell the cops…..apparently they don’t have clue.

Couldn’t agree more tosh. I used to go over there to take my child to the very very good rainbow tots nursery. Its awful the kids stuff got smashed as my child often asked about the litter and the 2 occassions the bins had been set alight.
Still the police have enough to do catching under 18′s without cycle helmets…

The culprits have thankfully been identified by police on cctv. The whole school i understand ratted them out as well as it was totally disgusted by it. What wasnt mentioned was the dog mess smeared everywhere. The two boys concerned should be made to clear it up. Disgusting.

5. Flymo – Excellent point. Goes to show, not all the kids are bad in Jersey despite what some might have you believe!!

My late mother used to say that any young idiot who vandalised someone else’s property should have their own possessions smashed up in front of them so they know how it feels to have something they are fond of destroyed for no reason at all.It may seem a bit “tit for tat” but would maybe be quite effective. I will happily volunteer to go round and smash up their playstations or whatever little toys they are keen on (and I am not normally a violent person!)

Badly behaved spoilt brats have been causing trouble at Quennevais for years, throwing stones at cars ,breaking stuff….running riot and vandalising… Churchill memorial park, burning down the toilets in the bay yet still we spend millions on Police enquiries, suspensions, playing musical chairs with senior officers,etc..what of policing ?…the problem at St.Brelade’s has run and run..nothing gets done so can we have our £millions spent in futility back please and can we dispose of the force now we know they can’t control a few kids in a very small and predictable area..so If St Brelade is going to be a police free zone we can at least save the cost, and give it to the old folks at Communicare.why pay for what don’t work..?

“What amazes me is that the the newspaper has few reports on how the States of Jersey Police or Honorary Police are going to combat these problems”
It should not amaze you at all, DI Burnside; the answer is transparently simple.
The Honorary Police have, and are, doing absolutely nothing.
What they are doing, though, is frantically trying to amass sufficient browny points to advance themselves in local politics – and in other, “social”, groups in Jersey.
The “Hons” care little for anyone or anything other than themselves.
