Flooding threat hits rush hour
Wednesday 31st March 2010, 3:00PM BST.
MOTORISTS suffered major delays during this morning’s rush hour as the Island faced the worst threat of coastal flooding since the devastating storms of March 2008.
Victoria Avenue was closed to westbound traffic and parts of the coast road of St Clement and Grouville were shut as gale-force winds and high tides threatened to cause severe flooding.
Rocks and other debris were thrown across the avenue and other coastal roads as the Island was battered by force 9 winds with gusts up to 67 mph.
A motorist escaped unharmed after a tree was blown down onto his car, and there were unconfirmed reports of minor landslides.

A total nightmare getting to work this morning. For some reason the Police kept the Avenue closed well after the ‘water spray’ danger had ceased.

Years ago it used to be Journalists who used to take these pictures.Nowadays they can’t get off their backsides and just rely on the public to send them.

Yet more incompetence. Mind you I see it daily now it doesn’t come as a shock anymore.
Victoria avenue was closed to west bound traffic. Surely someone in change could have made the east bound part of the avenue two way to get around this issue, or if this was too difficult why not make the inner road two lane westbound for the morning?
Thats what I would have done to save man hours. Mind you I suppose it doesn’t really matter as big business will be absorbing this lost time.

For safety reasons the avenue and the st clements coast road had to be closed but someone should have had the savvy to realize that it was a large spring tide at the worst time, and the weather was forecast days ahead to be rough, so why not make an announcemount to the public the day before warning of disruption.
