THE first race of the BMCRC MRO Morello Powerbikes class ended in near disaster for Jerseyman Rob Currie as he broke his collarbone and wrist in an unavoidable accident.

Competing at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk at the weekend, along with Islanders Chris Hamelin and Luke de la Cour, Currie and Hamelin, competing for the 1,000 Clubman Cup, started the race side by side on row six in 23rd and 24th positions respectively.

However, exiting Russell Chicane the rider ahead of Hamelin crashed forcing everyone behind to urgently try to avoid him and his bike.

Hamelin succeeded but Currie could not and, with nowhere to go, collided with the rider-less machine which slid into his path and threw him from his Grafters GSX-R machine causing injuries that will keep him off the track for a few months.
