World stage for Nelson

THE 15-year-old daughter of Jerseyborn parents is tearing up the running tracks in Australia – and is now heading for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Canada this summer.

Illawong, New South Wales, sprint junior Ella Nelson, the daughter of Steve and Julie (née Thompson), has won every major State championship age group event over recent seasons and has crowned all that by winning the Australia U20 national 200 metre title.

The title was secured at the Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Sydney, in a time of 23.68 seconds. It is the 16th fastest time ever run by an Australian junior – and Nelson has several more seasons left in that age category.

‘It was amazing,’ said an emotional Ella after the race. I’ve worked so hard for this and I’m so happy.’
