THE Caesarean Tennis Club are looking at building new premises and the field opposite St Saviour’s School could be an option, it is believed.

A number of sites are being considered by the tennis club in order that houses can be built on the land they currently occupy at Grands Vaux.

In 2008 the club applied to Planning for in-principle permission to develop the tennis club site into homes. But Planning said that they could not give permission until they knew where the club would move to, so the application is currently on hold.

Club chairman Paula Allbut would neither confirm nor deny rumours about whether the field opposite St Saviour’s School was an option, but said: ‘We are examining the feasibility of relocation and the development committee are looking at a variety of possible sites.’

Why should they be allowed to build on a green field? A great big bubble in the countryside is not attractive – can no one remember the opinions of the residents of Grands Vaux and others when it appeared on their doorstep? The tennis club already have premises they should be made to stay there not take an agriculture field.

Jerseyborn, would it be better if they proposed a red or blue field?

Absolutely NO WAY on that field! It’s the first open field we see from town, and should be protected at all costs. Think again!

My reference to a greenfield is in relation to areas of land as defined in the Island Plan, of which only brown and green are used.
For your future reference the definitions are as follows:
Brownfield Site: Land which is, or has previously been, developed
Greenfield Site: An area of land that has never been built upon

Therefore, as the field mentioned in the report has never been built on it is, by definition, a greenfield site.

I trust this makes my comment clearer to you.

I have walked those country roads around the back there since I was a teenager, and enjoyed the beautiful views across the fields for years. That field usually has horses grazing and is indeed one of the first fields seen as you approach Five Oaks. It should be left alone – no more building on green sites in the island!!

Why build a space wasting tennis club there when a developer could fill the field with 120 “tradional” (i.e. miserable looking boxes with shade inducing high roofs, a front door with no porch, gloomy sash windows and nowhere to park) modern Jersey houses?
