THE blue skies, pleasant conditions and tough competition brought out the crowds at the Jersey Race Club’s season opener at Les Landes yesterday.

Well over 2,000 attended the event, despite the loss of UK-trained entries due to travel problems caused by rough seas.

First season trainer Angie Corson, and jockey Mark Lawson, got off to a brilliant start as outsider, Toggle, came through to win the On Course Bookmakers Handicap and Top Level edged Top Pursuit for the four-runner Channel Islands Racing and Hunt Club Handicap.

Alyson Malzard also celebrated two wins, taking the opening two races of the season with reigning CI champion hurdler Koka Fast cruising to victory in the Windsor House Handicap Hurdle and King Kenny a comfortable three-length win in the SG Hambros Handicap.
