THOUSANDS of Unite union members could join a protest march being led by Island teachers later this month.

Jersey’s biggest teaching union, the NASUWT, recently announced plans for a mass rally following a breakdown in talks over their long-running pay and conditions dispute.

The union has said that it hopes other public sector workers will join the demonstration on 24 April, during which members will march from Howard Davis Park to the Opera House.

Unite, which represents thousands of public sector workers, yesterday became the first union to declare its support for the rally.

Union official Nick Corbel said that many workers were worried about their jobs, especially given the States’ plans to make savings to plug budget deficits caused by the recession.

Budget deficits are not caused primarily by the recession,,that’s pure spin …it is the unbridled spending and mounting civil service that is the cause……paying for the incinerator in one bite, commisioning it at all beggars belief as there was a cleaner safer way for 40 million…that would have fitted neatly in Bellozanne.let us not buy into this nonsense..when we have Euro exchange blunders and millions and millions wasted on all sorts of tosh and jollies for the boys, soon as cuts in services were mooted they picked on the patient transport, school milk..all intended to freak out the poor little working man who can’t think for himself, is compliant and doffs his cap to passing Burberry Range rovers…well it’s time the worm turned..let’s see how many have the cajones to be part of this protest..good luck boys.

I am a states employed person I am very happy that I have a job and also happy to have a 2% pay rise for this year. There are a lot of people who are looking for work who are finding just to keep their heads above the financial water hard work. Anther point I can not remember is when if ever have teachers offered to support other states workers by marching etc in the last 30 years when we have had no pay rises

    EFW Plant Is Good

Truthseeker, clearly you haven’t had much educaiton in economics, and the resulting basis of deficits etc., but they do in fact follow a recession. But I forgive your lack of knowledge on that front.

More pertinent is that the misleading comment about a “cleaner safer” way for waste at Bellozane is laughable – what you suggest would be redundant in three years. The Energy From Waste plant is exactly that, utilising waste as energy with minimal emissions relative to the current solution. What you suggest does not capture energy, nor does it have the technology to minimise emissions.

Again you have shown your ignorance rather than anything fact based.

7,instead of getting your knickers in a twist, what evidence do you have that a plasma gasifier would be redundant in 3 years when in Sweden they are happily working well and contrary to your rude and empty comments are producing 6times the amount of energy that an incinerator does, incineration as I have stated before emits the dreaded PM2.5 particles which lodge in the upper respiratory lung area and are highly toxic and carcinogenic..ie cancer causing..yet in your towering intellect you seek to call ME ignorant…oh and by the way produces NO toxic fly ash…but a genius like you would probably be happy to put the ash along with the asbestos in plastic bags down at La Collette ready to be breached each time more building is dome down there…AAAGHH

Nero would probably have watched the cycling, if bikes had been invented before fiddles.
