THE captain of the Island rugby team – already National III South East champions – has been dropped for tomorrow’s game against Bracknell, the only side to have beaten Jersey this season.
Coaach Ben Harvey has decided not to include ‘V’ Vaioleti for the last league game of the season, although they cannot lose the championship whatever the result. Their last encounter with Bracknell in September resulted in defeat by 24-19.
‘He’s not been playing well enough. It’s as simple as that,’ said Harvey. ‘I’ve been thinking of dropping him for the last few games. But he’ll not be the only player who’ll be disappointed by team selection. We’ve got four absolutely outstanding openside flankers to choose from which means Kern (Yates) can’t even get on the bench. Steve O’Brien is on the bench and he can count himself unlucky not to be starting.’
At tomorrow’s game, which starts at 3 pm at St Peter, the National League III London and SE winner’s shield will be presented by league secretary Paul Astbury.
