Be careful what you wish for – oppose a gym club and find yourself living next to a new supermarket

From C Gavey
I AM writing in support of the letter by J Bartlett (JEP, 6 April) which summarised some of the issues faced by the De Mond Gymnastics Academy, who currently operate from Le Rocquier School. They are indeed a hard-working group of young people.

On the same day this letter was published there was a round-up section on the back page of the Jersey Evening Post informing us of their success at a recent UK event.

These enthusiastic young people are to be commended for the effort they put in to training and representing their Island at such events. I understand that there is some concern over the traffic flow in Samarès Lane, so I decided to take a walk down there.
The site itself is off the road and poses no threat to the well-being of potential users.

The other issue was the amount of traffic passing down this lane. During my walk I encountered one passing car and a bicycle.

I fail to see how there can be an issue with the amount of traffic caused by a gymnastics club compared to an industrial business operating from this area. I know because I live by the trading estate in St Saviour.

So to those opposed, be careful what you wish for. If De Mond are not successful, you might be living next to our new supermarket.

De Mond are not the only gymnastics club to be looking for a new home its not that long ago that the Jersey Special Gymnastics Club and Jersey Gymnastics Clubs were looking for a new home maybe they should all get together. They also represent the island as well with some of the Special Gymnast now going on to not only represent Jersey but England as well as part of the England squad at the next olimpic games so spare a thought for them as well they could still do with a purpose built premises with pits etc why should one club benefit more then another ?
