Blandins drives to national triumph
Tuesday 13th April 2010, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY carriage driver Nicola Blandin, and her husband Kerry, won the British Indoor Championship at the Keysoe Equestrian College in Bedfordshire at the weekend.
The duo, and their pony Troy, a feisty 12.1 welsh cross thoroughbred bay gelding, fought off strong competition from over 150 other drivers to win the coveted 2010 National Open Pony Championship title and they were also crowned Overall Reserve Supreme Champion.
Nicola said: ‘Obviously we are delighted to have won but at one stage it was looking as if we were going to have to pull out because I was not well at all. Kerry travelled up and he was suffering with a virus and when we got there I started to feel unwell too.
‘The event doctor told me I would not be fit enough to compete but I was very determined to take part and I’m glad now that I did.’
