UK police say sorry for harassment warning
Tuesday 13th April 2010, 2:58PM BST.
A CAMPSITE owner issued with a police harassment notice for sending bills to a UK couple who did not pay for a wedding reception has received an apology from Devonshire and Cornwall constabulary.
The UK force had instructed Jersey Police to warn David Bridges not to contact the couple in Exeter who still owe him and other businesses thousands of pounds from the function held in the Island last year.
But last week Devonshire and Cornwall Police said sorry for the way he had been treated and advised the UK couple to pay their outstanding bills.
Bleu Soleil Campsite owner Mr Bridges said that he was pleased to receive the apology and had been told that the money he and other businesses were owed – between £6,000 and £7,000 – would be paid over the next two years.

And about b- time!
David Bridges was owed money by a tourist couple who ran away without paying their bills. He was perfectly entitled to seek recompense.
But our oh-so-politically-correct Police just had to stick its oar in.

Well done David!
As all who know you will agree, you are bloody minded and persistent … but it paid off!
The beers are on you ( for once).

Is this couple being charged with criminal fraud. It would seem obvious that they ran up these bills without any intention of paying. They should be put inside. Maybe I should take the memsahib and a few friends out for the weekend staying at the best hotel knocking back the best of Krug Champagne.Upon being presented with the bill for six or seven grand I could give them a dodgy cheque. Then once it had been established that I was on the bones of my backside and the police had told the hotelier not to hassle me I could at my leisure, perhaps over a couple of years repay my indebtedness, without interest of course.
I was brought up to only buy things when one could afford to pay in cash, no borrowings; I have become disgustingly rich as a consequence. It is a great pity that the States Members cannot do the same with the tax payers money.

What should we expect? Police are on the side of the criminal both in Jersey and UK it seems. Bet the man still never gets his money.

Nice one David. See you in May!

It appears as if the lunatics have taken over the asylum. I wonder how Devon and Cornwall Police deal with Court Bailiffs and debt collectors?
Another indication of how policing has deteriorated with the accelerated promotion shceme for graduate entries. Many of these people have little or no life experience and often no understanding of the law.

And the police wonder why Jo public has little respect for them – what a joke when warnings like this are given to law abiding people.

I like to thank everyone who has supported us to get justice done and to clear our names from this stupid Harrasment Charge. I took up the stance for all Jersey Businesses that may have or in the future have the same problem. A lot of hours have been put in to this and it has caused a lot of stress to my wife and I, but we new we were innocent. As I have said before the crimminals have more rights than the victims. Also just to let everyone know we still had no response from Jersey Police to see if they are going to apologise, they say that it is in the hands of the Jersey Legal Department. We have had dealings with them in the past and we expect a reply in about a years time!!!! All we want is a apology not financial recompense, but it seems they cannot do that. Also do not forget BleuSoleil Campsite and Restaurant is open all year and we give discounts to locals staying – Look us up in the Staycation Event on Friday 16 April 2010 at the Weighbridge All the Best David & Lesley

David..well done you for hanging in there…standing up for your rights needs the occasional shot in the arm your persistence has provided. A blow for common sense.

Well done David! You and others stood up for justice and actually got it! In this day when unfortunately the police and justice system are too busy being concerned not to upset the rights of the criminal it is heartening to see at least one occasion when they have apologised for completely getting it wrong! It is though disheartening .. tho not at all surprising … that the Jersey police cant be seen to lose face and say a simple sorry for trying their best to criminalise the victim! This whole saga has been, im sure, a nightmare and frustration to you and i hope you not only do get a full apology from Jersey police but also get your full money back asap!
Well done on standing your ground!
