YOUNG cyclists in the Island are being invited to race on a closed road as a prelude to the Tour de Bretagne on Sunday, 25 April.

The recently formed Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy will host races at Gorey for three age-groups – up to 8s, 9-11 and 12-16.

JCAYA chairman Steve Lowhtorpe said: ‘The academy is new and the response from the VĂ©lo and Caesarean cycling club coaches helpin us to develop the youngsters has been amazing.

‘There has been a noticeable rise in the number of juniors since the town centre races last year and with the Tour de Bretagne and another town centre event coming up in the next couple of months, I fully expect the interest from the juniors to continue to increase.’
