THE future of Bmibaby services to the Island is likely to come under scrutiny as a result of a major restructuring of the group that owns the airline.
But the general prospects for the low-cost carrier appear to be more secure following
announcements by German owners Lufthansa this week.
The airline, which is a subsidiary of the Lufthansa-owned British Midland group, flies from Jersey to Bournemouth, Cardiff, East Midlands and Manchester. There had been fears that Lufthansa would close or sell off the airline as part of a plan to save £100 million across the British Midland group.
Yesterday the details of a major restructure were announced. The airline group is expected to reduce seat capacity by up to 25 per cent and shed 800 jobs this year.
