Jersey’s Elizabeth Cann, the national champion, is in action in the Yonex Europeans this week

JERSEY badminton star Elizabeth Cann got her Yonex European Championship off to a fine start in Manchester yesterday with two wins in the women’s singles.

England’s four-time National champion recorded solid victories against Poland’s Anna Narel (21-13, 21-11) and Belarus’s Tatjana Bibik (21-13, 12-21, 21-14).

Fellow Jersey player Mariana Agathangelou and partner Robin Middleton, who were seeded sixth, were beaten in the mixed doubles by France’s Baptiste Careme and Laura Choinet (21-15, 18-21, 19-21).
