Golden girl Carol (71) has no plans to throw in the towel
Thursday 15th April 2010, 2:58PM BST.
MULTI-talented athlete Carole Derrien has returned from the World Masters Indoor Championships in Canada with three medals.
Golds were won in the one-kilogram discus and 3k hammer throws, in the 70-75 year-old age group, and silver in the weight throw.
The 71-year-old, a regular athlete at veterans’ championships since 1991, said: ‘The competition is tough; they don’t give out medals unless you reach a certain standard and although the competitions get harder and harder each year I was delighted with my performance.
‘I did not win anything last time in Finland because I wasn’t fit enough, I’d recovered from a back problem and a broken elbow but I was not good enough to gain any medals then. I should have had a third gold this time too but I just missed out in the weight throw.’
