New Island marathon record
Thursday 15th April 2010, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY runner Jo Gorrod’s Commonwealth Games dream is over.
Despite the 39-year-old becoming the fastest ladies’ marathon runner in the Channel Islands, at the Rotterdam marathon on Sunday, Gorrod missed out registering the Delhi Games qualifying standard by eight minutes.
Running only her second 26.2 mile race, Gorrod finished second vet and 19th ladies’ runner overall despite ‘hitting the wall’ six miles from home.
Gorrod, whose time of 2hr 52 minutes is the third best recorded by a British woman so far this year, said: ‘The Commonwealths are gone now; I don’t have enough time to focus on running another marathon so I’m now looking ahead to the 10k and half-marathon events in Jersey next Spring.’
