Postal move is delayed by an efficiency review

THE opening up of the postal market has been delayed after States Members raised serious concerns over the future of Jersey Post.

No final decision will therefore be made on licence applications until an efficiency review of the company has taken place.

Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said that the findings of the review by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority would be published.

The company and their workforce have protested about an in-principle decision to allow two companies to compete with them in the lucrative fulfilment market, which they say will cost jobs and could mean the end of the daily postal delivery and the closure of several post offices.

Several States Members, led by Deputy Geoff Southern, have expressed concerns about the effect that competition would have on Jersey Post.
