Jersey Rugby Club players celebrate their historic victory.

A TREMENDOUS weekend of Island sport was topped by Jersey Rugby Club putting in a scintillating performance to earn an historic date at Twickenham.

Ben Harvey’s boys swept aside South West National III champs Taunton 65-14 at St Peter on Saturday to book their place as the main match at RFU headquarters on Saturday 8 May, against Midlands III top dogs Ampthill from Bedfordshire.

Jersey will, however, barely have time to think of the immensity of their achievement before switching their attention to defending the Siam Cup away to Guernsey RFC this Saturday. Guernsey received a body-blow when they were beaten in their promotion play-off match in London South II, going down, unluckily, 17-14 away to Hove.
