A disused former hotel in St Aubin was severely damaged by a major fire this morning.

At the height of the blaze, flames leapt high above the Mont de la Rocque hotel, which has been boarded up for more than two years.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident following a 999 call at 5.45 am and launched a major response. At one stage, four fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a Fire and Rescue Service mobile command unit were at the scene, with 26 people involved in the operation.

By 7.15 am, the flames had died down, but a column of smoke was still pouring from the roof of the building.
