It was a good day for Rabobank Continental as stage one winner Jetse Bol finished in sixth place on stage two to keep hold of the leader’s jersey Picture: DAVID FERGUSON (00944418)
THE Tour de Bretagne entourage headed back to France by ferry yesterday with two stages of the 44th running of the event competed.
And eight seconds was pulled back on the early leader following the 10 km time trial in St Ouen, won by a Rabobank rider for the second day in succession, this time Holland’s Martijn Keizer.
First stage winner Jetse Bol finished sixth overall and ten seconds behind team-mate Keizer who completed the picturesque course in 12 minutes and 43 seconds.
Johan Le Bon, of the Bretagne-Schuller team, finished three seconds behind Keizer to move into second position in the general classification after stage two.
Jersey Tourism public relations manager Mike Tait said that the Island had put on a fantastic show. ‘It’s a big risk to accept a prestigious two-day event like this because if something had gone wrong it would have been a disaster. Thankfully it did not – it was typical of Jersey to put on a fantastic show.’

Err, can someone actually say what events made up the “fantastic show” that Jersey put on for the event?

I’m sure it was all jolly good fun and many people went to watch. However, this event was hosted by Jersey which means funding. Would be interesting to see figures on how much it all cost against the projected profit – if any!
